The Author options dialog is designed to specify notebook author's information: name, organization and comments. Also here you can set "read-only" mode for current notebook which prevents any changes of notes content (editing notes, changing its visual and other options, etc.).

The author information may be used in page header and footer when printing the notes and in the text inserted before and after note when exporting.
