The Security options dialog is designed to change notebook saving options, encrypt (protect) or decrypt (unprotect) the notebook, change its password and set up auto away and auto close timers. My Notes Center uses strong encryption algorithm named 'BlowFish'. It is symmethric and has a 448-bit key. Also My Notes Center uses an MD5 hash algorithm for user key checking purposes. My Notes Center does NOT store your key in notebook file and truly encrypts all your notes. To protect current notebook from unauthorized access press Encrypt notebook button. You will be asked for password and password reminder and than your notebook will be encrypted. Note, it is very important to enter a password reminder because if you forget your password it will be impossible to decrypt your notes. There's no backdoors. We recommend you not to use passwords like 'Tom' and reminders like 'My cat's name'. Use a random generated password like 'thi4Kejob' and reminder like 'my usual password' or 'This is four kilobytes of electronic work' ;-). Note, after changing the protection status of the notebook will be impossible to recover deleted notes by Recover notes dialog. To change password of current notebook press Change password... button. You'll be asked for old password and a new one. Do not forget to change the password reminder too. If Force away mode after N minutes or seconds of inactivity option is set and if My Notes Center window is deactivated or minimized for specified time interval than this notebook will be switched to away mode. The same for Close this notebook after... option. |
